In the last two posts of this series we created a list of what brings us joy during the holiday season and our gift list. I hope you have also started giving yourself a daily gift of self care - moving, hydrating, nourishing and resting. You really deserve it and you are going to feel so so much better.

So this week there will be no more creating of lists (though I do encourage you to keep refining them until you feel they are right). Instead we are going to create action. This is a really quick win and provides great momentum even though sometimes you may feel you’re not really doing anything significant. Key is that it creates good habits that support consistency. And our habits and the consistency of our habits is what helps us create a life we thrive in.

What’s something on your list that you could do today? Just one thing on the list - choose something. Now go make it happen. Today - or tomorrow if you are reading this after midday because the whole purpose of this is to help you flourish and not induce anxiety! Now the thing you may “make happen” may well be the food list. Or it might be finding the santa sacks, or writing some cards to distant friends. It might be going for a walk in the fresh air. It doesn’t have to be a big thing - just something to tick off and making sure its something on your list.

The satisfaction of completion can’t be underestimated. It builds momentum and the more momentum we build the more we can get done. But this isn’t an exercise in doing more. Oh no, don't fall into the “busy” trap. This is about conscious momentum on the things you want to achieve and diverting momentum away from the things that aren’t our focus. How often have you found yourself saying “I’ll do X today …..but first I’ll just have a quick scroll” or “…first I’ll get get some cleaning done” or “….. first I will...." . Do your focus things first and then you will always find satisfaction.

We all have the same number of hours available - some of us just choose to do what we love first

If you find you aren’t making progress with the things that you want to, try the trick of calling them a non-negotiable. This means that if you need to choose between competing activities you choose the one that you have already identified as the non-negotiable. No you can’t do everything at once but you can do those specific things you make a priority. Try choosing up to  2-3 things that are non-negotiable for the day (or daily for the week) anymore than this and you can end up disappointing yourself.

It can all feel a bit artificial and the pressure feels like it gets upped, but stick with it and you’ll find the things you really want to progress move in the right direction while all those other things we feel we must do somehow fade from importance or get done too without being a priority.

Your holiday season has already been set out in the past couple of weeks so the hard part about getting clear has already been achieved. Really we shouldn’t lose sight that it's only one day. But if this is the event that shows you how what you do daily, creates the future you get to enjoy then that’s got to be a good thing to right! The important thing is who and what you give your time to. What ever they are be sure that they trigger joy - because life is shorter than we dream and the journey should be fun, filled with kindness and abundant giving.

Take care e hoa - you are worthy, always xx
